Transformers of this type are used in the steel melting and metallurgical industry. They are characterised by high secondary current (for steel up to 90 kA and for ferroalloy up to 160 kA electrode current) and a wide secondary voltage range. The secondary voltage is normally regulated by an on-load tap changer (OLTC) located in the high voltage winding or in an intermediate circuit of a two-cored design within the transformer tank.
